At Amethyst, we believe in supporting the next generation by offering valuable work experience opportunities to local students. These placements allow young people to develop real-world skills, gain insight into the industry, and build confidence for their future careers, while also giving us the chance to nurture fresh talent within our community

Amethyst are delighted to announce the completion of the JOSCAR registration process.

JOSCAR, which stands for the Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register, is a collaborative tool used by major buying organizations in the defence, aerospace, and security sectors to manage supplier data and streamline procurement processes. It provides a single repository for pre-qualification and compliance information, allowing suppliers to showcase their readiness for business and making it easier for buyers to assess potential partners.

Amethyst Designs' acquisition of BC Electrical Techniques

We are delighted to announce that Amethyst Designs Limited has recently acquired BC Electrical Techniques

Machinery, equipment, IP etc have been re-located to Bar Hill with the Aylesbury facility closing.  Both David Childs & David Legge will be working with the staff at Amethyst to ensure continuity during this transitional period. 

This acquisition will enable Amethyst to expand the range of items that can be offered.

Amethyst Designs' acquisition of Repanco Bartlett

We are delighted to announce that Amethyst Designs Limited has recently acquired Repanco Bartlett

Machinery, equipment, IP etc have been re-located to Bar Hill with the Coventry facility closing.  Both Sue and Jag Jagatia will be working with the staff at Amethyst to ensure continuity during this transitional period.  All existing orders placed with Repanco Bartlett will be invoiced by Amethyst.

This acquisition will enhance Amethyst’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading companies in the design and manufacturer of Transformers and Wound Components

Amethyst Designs' acquisition of Cambridge Transformers

We are delighted to announce that Amethyst Designs Limited has recently acquired Cambridge Transformers Limited.

Machinery, equipment, IP etc along with the staff have been re-located to Bar Hill with the St Ives facility closing at the end of December.  Mark Lovesy, MD of Cambridge Transformers, will be working with the staff at Amethyst to ensure continuity during this transitional period.  All existing orders placed with Cambridge Transformer will be invoiced by Amethyst from the 1st January 2022.

This acquisition will enhance Amethyst’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading companies in the design and manufacturer of Transformers and Wound Components – further details of our products and services can be found on our web site.

Barry Martindale has joined the team at Amethyst

Amethyst are delighted to announce that Barry Martindale B.Sc.(hons) (formerly of both Aluminium and Electro Inductors) has joined the team at Amethyst.

Barry is an Electrical Engineering graduate with over 45 years’ experience in the design of windings, inductors and transformers.

Particular area of specialisms are high frequency high power transformers, air cored windings up to 2500 Amps continuous and high frequency current flow in windings and conductors.

Examples of past designs include the following:

  • Air cored inductors and windings up to 600kg in weight, wound with aluminium and copper foil, enamelled copper and aluminium strips, round wire (including litz wire)
  • Water cooled windings (including water cooled litz wire)
  • High current powder iron cored inductors.
  • Transformers and iron cored inductors, including making and testing high frequency transformers up to 40kVA continuous (designs to 90kVA) typically for traction applications.
  • Inrush current limiting inductors for power factor correction capacitor banks up to 25kV system voltage and 500 Amps.
  • Pulse shaping inductors for pulsed power laser power supplies.
  • Superconductor windings.
  • Expertise in analysing current distribution at high frequencies (skin effect, proximity effect) enhanced by in-house multi frequency inductance analysers and special modelling techniques.

Amethyst Designs' acquisition of Aluminium Inductors and Electro Inductors

We are delighted to announce that Amethyst Designs Limited has recently completed the acquisition of both Aluminium Inductors Limited and Electro Inductors Limited.

Both companies have been re-located to our Bar Hill facility with the Croydon facility closing at the end of January.  Barry Martindale, MD of both companies, will be working with the staff at Amethyst to ensure continuity during this transitional period.  Existing orders will be invoiced by either Aluminium or Electro Inductors, new orders invoiced by Amethyst.

Amethyst Designs Celebrates 35 Years in Business

On the 7th July 2017 we formally celebrated 35 years of trading.  Founded by John Anderson and Pat Sheridan, we are now firmly established as one of the leading companies within the UK transformer industry.

Employing 30 staff at our modern facility just outside Cambridge, we have built an excellent reputation for service and quality.

In recent times we have been able to expand our product range through acquisitions and employment of key personnel from within the industry, and are now able to offer offshore manufacture.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their loyalty, our suppliers for their continued support and finally our colleagues here at Amethyst for continually ensuring that high standards of quality and service are achieved.

We continue to move forward, taking on new challenges and achieving new goals, using our experience and excellent service, ensuring many more successful years to come.
